When you register for a study and while the study is in progress, Ethica app is working in the background on your device to perform the tasks needed by the research study. If you open the app, you will see the information about that study categorized under three sections:
About: In this section you can read about the study, what research lab is organizing the study, what sort of data they collect, for what purpose they will be using the data, and for how long the study continues. From here, you will also have an option to leave a study, if you decide to do so. You can read more about leaving study in Leaving a Study.
Data Sources: Data Sources are types of data which the study records during your participation. Each study, depending on their purpose, can pick what sources of data it needs to have access to. Ethica lists these data sources for you and explain what each mean. While the study is in progress, data from these sources are collected, encrypted, and uploaded automatically. You can put this process on hold anytime you want. You can read more about this in Pausing Study Participation section.
While Ethica can be configured to collect different types of data needed for research from your phone using the sensors embedded inside the device, it only collects data from the sources mentioned in this section. No other data is collected through Ethica under any circumstances.
Actions: Some studies require you to perform certain actions while being part of the study. If your study does not require any action, you will not see this section in your home page.
