Is there a list of permissions settings for the App that Android users should be sure to have turned on to ensure proper data collection?

    Hi Margot,

Stock Ethica cannot record "App Usage" statistics data. When a study requests this data, the app asks participants to download a separate app (can be found here), buy showing this message. Pressing "Download" will open the Google Play Store on the participant's phone, and allows them to download the secondary app.

After downloading this app, participants should explicitly allow Ethica to access this type of data. If they have not provided this permission, they will receive "Cannot access app usage statistics" notification. When they do provide the permission, then Ethica can collect the data continuously as expected.

This setup is a bit lengthy, but has to be done only once after registering in the study.

Ah, I see. I'm actually less interested in their usage data, and more in what settings within the phone's permissions for the App should be allowed for general data collection/upload (eg. GPS, Bluetooth). Or does the app always prompt for these automatically in Android as the notifications articles suggest?

The app always notifies the participant for the missing permissions, or for the data sources which are turned off (like GPS). This particular topic talks about "App Usage" data source, but you can check the rest through the side menu of the documentation as well.
